Direct Trainer Skills (DTS)

The aim of the DTS Course is to provide the participants an opportunity to develop basic instructional skills.  Acquisition of these skills will enable trainers to make an effective contribution to their institution's courses as well as individual development. The fundamental functions of a trainer such as delivering lectures, run exercises/games, coach individual learners are given stress in the DTS course.

The objectives of the DTS Course are:

-           to enable the participants to describe the systematic approach to training;
-           plan instructional activities within the framework of a learning unit;
-           plan, prepare and deliver instructional sessions based on coaching, lecturing, discussion leading and running group exercises;
-           plan and prepare audio-visual aids for training; and
-           provide feedback to promote effective learning

The participants level for nominations to DTS course should be (a) direct trainers who are imparting training in a class-room environment; or (b) officials, who apart from their normal duties, act as guest tutors; or (c) experienced trainers who wish to review their instructional skills may be nominated for the DTS Course

Successful completion of Direct Trainer Skills (DTS) Course is a pre-requisite for Design of Training (DoT) Course.

Design of Training (DoT)

The aim of the DoT Course is to provide further advice and development opportunities to enable the trainers to undertake the additional responsibilities of training design.

The objectives of the DoT Course are to enable the participants to:

-                     establish the link between `performance problems' and the provision of training;
-                     relate the provision of training to the needs of `client' and `beneficiaries';
-                     write objectives in behavioral terms;
-           apply the concepts of training to design of training;
-           select and evaluate training methods; and
-           present design proposal to management for approval and support.

For nominations to the DoT Course, completion of the DTS course is a pre-requisite as DoT course builds upon concepts and skills introduced in the DTS course.

The course methodology of the DTS & DoT courses is highly participative, using a tutor: trainee ratio of 1:6. Maximum stress is given to develop practical instructional skills supported by video films and selected handouts.  The Courses are residential in view of the intensive skill-based style and the need for participants to do a certain amount of preparatory work every day.  No course fee is payable by the participants for attending the course.  The participants will have to pay the board and lodging charges (@ Rs.200 per day per participant) directly to the host-Institute, the amount will be indicated at the time of confirmation of a particular course.  The traveling and other incidentals of the nominees will have to be borne by their respective sponsoring authorities and they should be considered `on duty' during the entire duration of the course as in other courses sponsored by Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Government of India.

The venue for the DTS & DoT Courses are 7 selected Training Centres developed by Training Division, DoPT especially for running the ToT Courses.  The faculty running these courses are trained extensively in India as well as in UK.  They are licensed users of the ToT packages.  The detailed Calendar of DTS & DoT Courses to be sponsored by Training Division, DoPT during 2002-2002 is attached at Annexure.

The last date for receipt of nominations in Training Division in 4-weeks prior to the starting date of each Course.  The nominations should be made in the enclosed proforma and the Course Code should be specifically mentioned therein.  Any number of faculty members may be nominated for these courses and multiple copies (of the proforma) should used for separate nominations. Nominations will be accepted on the availability of slots.
